Overview

The Certificate in Teaching is a blended learning course designed for practicing and aspiring teachers at the pre-primary and primary levels to strengthen their classroom teaching skills through both theoretical understanding and practical application. Delivered by faculty members, pedagogical experts, and specialists from BRAC IED, BRAC University, with extensive field experience. The course offers practical and contextually relevant guidance on key areas such as child development, inclusive education, lesson planning, literacy and numeracy, STEM, socio-emotional learning, classroom management, child protection, and professional skills.

Spanning 84 hours over 21 days, the course includes 15 online classes and 6 in-person simulation sessions. Participants will gain hands-on experience through micro-teaching, simulations, continuous feedback, and reflective practice to effectively support young learners in diverse classroom settings.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic concepts and principles of education for primary and pre-primary learners.
  • Use inclusive teaching practices to support children with different learning needs.
  • Prepare simple lesson plans based on curriculum goals.
  • Understand child development and how young children learn best.
  • Apply different teaching methods based on learning styles and multiple intelligences.
  • Use individualized teaching and social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies in the classroom.
  • Conduct play-based learning activities for young learners.
  • Teach basic literacy skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Teach foundational numeracy skills using child-friendly methods.
  • Introduce simple STEM activities suitable for primary and pre-primary classrooms.
  • Use basic assessment techniques to track children’s learning and progress.
  • Apply effective classroom management techniques for young learners.
  • Demonstrate awareness of child protection and safeguarding practices.
  • Show professional behavior and communication skills expected of teachers.
